A former taxi office in Croydon will be turned into a café and bar.
The taxi office at 11 Station Road, South Norwood, shut in January and has been vacant ever since.
Earlier this year, proposals were submitted to convert the building into a new café and bar, and Croydon Council granted planning permission last Friday (July 25).
The new venue will include a seating area, bar counter and small kitchen.
The shopfront is set for a makeover with new signage and a lick of paint, while outdoor seating will be added in the rear courtyard and to the front of the street.
Planning documents say: “The proposed development will transform an underutilized commercial unit into a vibrant and accessible bar and café that aligns with the character of the area.
“The design prioritizes customer comfort, accessibility, and sustainability while ensuring minimal impact on the existing streetscape.”
Two car parking spaces are set to be removed as part of the refurbishment, something Croydon Council planning officers said would improve the “character and appearance” of the area.
They added: “The proposed opening times would not harm the amenities of the neighbouring residential occupants, nor would it result in in highway safety matters.”
Planning documents list Posh Drinks Limited as the company behind the proposals.
The café and bar will be located just a short walk from Norwood Junction London Overground train station.
