A new independent sweet shop and ice cream parlour has opened in Crystal Palace.
Named Sweet Child of Mine, the shop at 16 Church Road offers a nostalgia trip for sweet lovers, with a collection of sundaes, classic sweets, and varied ice-cream flavours.
The sweet shop idea was thought up by founder Sue Allison, a 51-year-old Crystal Palace resident.
She noticed a gap in the area's sweet options, inspiring her to open a shop that is both a pick and mix shop and an old school ice-cream parlour.
The shop supplies more than 50 different pick and mix sweets, ranging from classics like sherbet lemons to contemporary ones like rainbow belts.
They also stock 15 flavours of family-owned English Marshfield Ice Cream and other delicious treats, such as fudge, marshmallows and chocolates - with new treats added each week.
Just like old-fashioned sweet shops, customers can choose small, medium, or large bags of assorted sweets.
The shop also offers party bags and personalised sweet jars, ideal for gifts.
Sweet Child of Mine also hopes to extend its services into winter, offering indoor seating and "build your own sundae" parties, for ice cream all year round.
Before this venture, Sue Allison worked in the television production industry for more 25 years, contributing to some of Britain's most popular quiz and game shows.
Sue said: "I've had a brilliant career but the last couple of years have been really tough for the TV industry in general.
"It felt like the time was right to go and do something completely different."
She added: "I wanted to create an attractive and enchanting place that would put smiles on people's faces - the grown-ups as well as the little children who get transfixed by the rows of jars."
A sign-writer and designer named Hana Sunny worked with Sue to create the shop's branding, influenced by 1950s American ice cream parlour design.
When questioned about future plans to possibly expand into a chain, Sue said: "I’d like to expand the sweets business online, but for now, I'll be happy to become an established favourite for all ages on the Crystal Palace Triangle."
Sweet Child of Mine will be open from every week from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12pm until 6pm, as well as on bank holidays.
