A man has been taken to hospital after an “altercation” between a group of men where a person was hit by a car in Coulsdon.

Police were called to Brighton Road at around 7.42pm on March 8 after reports of an “altercation” involving a group of men.

A car had hit one of the men involved leaving him with a leg injury.

He was taken to hospital and his condition has been confirmed as non-life threatening.

One man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.

Brighton Road has reopened after it was closed between A237 Lion Green Road and Chipstead Valley Road at 2am from last night. 

Buses were previously on diversion.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.29pm yesterday (8 March) to reports of a road traffic collision in Brighton Road, Coulsdon.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an advanced paramedic to the scene.

“We treated a patient for a leg injury and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Brighton Road, Coulsdon at about 19:42hrs on Friday, 8 March following reports of an altercation involving a number of men.

“It was further reported that a car had collided with one of those involved. The victim suffered a leg injury as a result.

“He was taken to hospital where his injuries are still being assessed.

“One man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.”
