Croydon is set to welcome a new chicken shop as part of a major push by an American chain.

Wingstop plans to open 15 new restaurants nationwide, which could create up to 750 additional jobs.

The master franchisee, Lemon Pepper Holdings, confirmed nine future branches across the UK and negotiations are underway for an additional six sites set to open in 2024.

The sites include Croydon Valley Retail Park, along with other locations in Hounslow, Clapham High Street, Watford Wood Green, Lakeside Shopping Centre, Westfield Stratford City, Merry Hill Dudley, and a second venue in Leeds.

The UK franchise of the US brand, Wingstop UK, is driving its most significant expansion since its British debut in 2018.

The chain, specialising in wings, tenders, burgers and sides, has expanded to manage 39 UK joints, providing employment for 1,600 staff.

Tom Grogan, co-founder of Lemon Pepper Holdings, said: "2024 is going to be our biggest-ever year of growth.

"We are proud to be opening across the country and creating up to 750 new jobs.

"In just five short years as a business, we have certainly made our mark, offering the best-tasting wings in the business alongside an authentic and customised dining experience.

"There is huge momentum, and we are just getting started.

"We can’t wait for more of the UK to try our delicious food."

Wingstop is among a surge of US brands expanding their franchises at an accelerated rate across the UK.
