Croydon Friends of the Earth asked local residents to pledge to reduce their use of plastic bags at the Croydon Mela Festival on Sunday.
In return for writing their pledge on a board at the group's stall, wannabe eco-warriors received a free reusable bag to put their promise into action.
The group's stall at the festival displayed facts and photographs showing the effects of plastic bags on wildlife and gave out literature on how people can reduce waste and recycle.
