I would like to commend the Church of the Nazarene, Croydon, for its work in the local community, helping aged and disabled people by cutting the grass in their gardens and doing jobs for them that they are unable to do.

Every Wednesday evening, we have the pleasure of listening to the pastor of this church - with his wonderful bible-teaching under the inspiration and direction of God's Holy Spirit.

Every Sunday morning and evening, he leads his small flock in praise and worship and teaching, and again I would say under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

However, this is not a man who only works Wednesday evening and Sundays.

In the week, he takes off his dog collar and - with other members of this congregation - he rolls up his sleeves, puts on his working clothes and sets about the task of helping those who cannot help themselves.

That is truly love in action because it is all a free service that is given.

This Church of the Nazarene in Lower Addiscombe Road is not one of the high-flying charismatic churches with large congregations and large offerings, but it is a very old fashioned church with very modest offerings.

However, what it lacks in quantity, it largely makes up for in quality.

These are the unsung heroes and heroines of God's army, and their names are written in heaven.
