Cuba gave us the mojito. Mexico introduced the margarita. And now Cheam is creating a stir in the cocktail world by serving up the Froo Woo.

The concoction of Smirnoff Ice, peach schnapps, pomegranate juice and mixed berry ice was "muddled" by mixologists at the local Harrow Inn.

It may lack the tropical decadence of Latin exports but Froo Woo is fast-becoming the chic drink to be seen sipping this summer.

The cocktail is already being sold at another 182 Ember Inn pubs across England and Wales.

Sales are outstripping those of lipsmacking classics such as the cosmopolitan and the potent Brazilian caipirinha.

Tastemakers and stylish socialities are among the legion of fans, as the Sex and the City movie revives interest in cocktail couture.

Sarah Jeffries, of Ember Inns, said: "Cider over ice was the drink of last summer; this year it looks set to be cocktails.

"The fantastic thing about them is they are fun to drink.

"And, with a number of new varieties on our menu, we are giving guests the opportunity to find their perfect flavour combination.

Mrs Jeffries added: "Since we launched the Froo Woo, it has already proved extremely popular with our female guests, with pitcher sales exceeding those of the mojito by two to one.

"It is the ideal drink for a fun night out with the girls or for an evening with your partner. The classics like the mojito will always rank among the most popular cocktails. However, with this one, it looks like we are on to a winner."

Froo Woo is available by the glass, at £2.99, or as a pitcher, at £9.50, from the Harrow Inn in Cheam High Street.
