Crystal Palace's new Austrian Johannes Ertl has set promotion to the Premiership as his next challenge after conquering his first - finding a flat.

The utility man moved to south London three weeks ago from Austria Wien and has impressed with friendly appearances against Crawley Town and Aldershot.

He has not taken long to settle into SE25 life and revealed his delight at moving out of the hotel he has been staying in.

He said: "I've found a flat around the training ground and I am very happy to move as fast as possible from the hotel and now I have a special goal, a special aim and that is to go to up to the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

"I was here a couple of years ago. I know London and a lot of friends of mine are here in London so it's really great.

"I like London, I like England and that's one of the main reasons why I'm here because I want to play football in a great country in a great city to prove myself and so I'm really happy."

Ertl had a four-day trial with Palace towards the end of last season in which he impressed Palace manager Neil Warnock enough to be offered a deal.

"From the first moment I really enjoyed it here because the squad is very good," he said. "It's a friendly club. Very familiar and I feel very comfortable.

"The pre-season is hard because we want to be fit in the season and the main difference to Austrian pre-season is the training regime is much longer and it's a little bit harder I think. But I like it and that's the reason why I'm here."

Ertl can play across the back four as well as in midfield but it is centre-back where he is happiest.

"My main position is centre back but I can also play on the right side," he said.

"The season is very long and hard so when I can play a few positions it is an advantage because when a position comes up because of injury I can help here and I can help there so we will see what the season brings."
