A 14-year-old boy has been robbed by a group of males just a few days prior to a fatal stabbing in the same area in Sutton.

Police were called at around 11.20pm on December 1 after a teenage boy was robbed in Christchurch Park – a short walk away from Sutton High Street where a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on Tuesday, December 5.

The victim of the robbery told police that he was approached by a group who demanded his phone from him.

They suggested that they had a weapon, and the phone was taken.

Police said that enquiries are now ongoing.

A few days later on December 5, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Sutton High Street at around 7:08pm.

On arrival officers found Ilyas Habibi with stab injuries and he died at the scene.

Police have revealed that Ilyas arrived at Sutton High Street by train and minutes after he came out of the station he station “he was involved in an altercation with the suspect who then fled the scene”.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said “Police were called at around 22:20hrs on Friday, 1 December to a report of a robbery on Christchurch Park, Sutton.

“A boy, aged 14, said he had been approached by a group of males who demanded he give them his phone and suggested they had a weapon.

“He handed over his phone and the group left the scene. No weapon was seen.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”
