Here’s everything you need to know about Thameslink travel in south London this weekend amid strike action and engineering works

ASLEF has announced that industrial action will take place on Sunday, December 3, affecting a number of train operators serving south London.

ASLEF additionally announced an overtime ban which is set to be in effect from Friday, December 1 until Saturday, December 9.

On Sunday, December 3 there will be no Thameslink services running throughout the day as ASLEF members take industrial action.

Over the weekend engineering works will impact travel via Denmark Hill, affecting services between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks.

Thameslink has also advised that services will be running to an amended timetable, with fewer services on Saturday as a result of the overtime ban.

Customers are being advised to check before they travel and to plan ahead over the weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Saturday, December 2: Overtime ban affecting Thameslink services

On Saturday, there will be a limited timetable with fewer services running due to the ASLEF overtime ban.

Thameslink are advising that services will start later and finish earlier than usual on Saturday, with some stations having no service for the entire day.

These are the affected services:

  • London Bridge and Gatwick Airport via Redhill – two trains per hour
  • London Bridge and Three Bridges via Redhill – two trains per hour
  • London Bridge and Brighton – two trains per hour
  • London Bridge and Rainham – one train per hour
  • London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks – one train per hour (this service will not call at Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Nunhead, Crofton Park, Catford, Bellingham, Beckenham Hill and Ravensbourne)

Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3: No trains via Denmark Hill

This weekend there will no Thameslink services running via Denmark Hill, due to engineering works taking place between Brixton and Sutton and Ravensbourne which will close some lines.

This will affect Thameslink services running between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks.

A rail replacement bus service will between Herne Hill and Bromley South, calling at all stations except Nunhead and Ravensbourne.

Thameslink passengers travelling to either of these stations are being advised to use their tickets on either the P12 or 354 bus route.

There will be a revised Thameslink service timetable running between Sevenoaks and Orpington, which will divert via Kent House, calling at the additional stations of Beckenham Junction and Herne Hill.

Sunday, December 3: No Thameslink services

On Sunday, there will be no Thameslink services operating throughout the day as a result of strike action.

Instead, a regular Sunday service will be operating on the Southern network, with some amendments expected due to planned engineering works.

Thameslink has advised the possibility of on-the-day cancellations and are advising customers to check before travelling.

Customers travelling to and from stations between Tulse Hill and Sutton via Mitcham Junction are advised to travel via Southern services to complete their journeys.
