A man has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of murdering his mum in her south London home.

Jason Phinn, 35, allegedly attacked Christie Eugene, 64, in Brixton.

Police and medics were called to her home in Strathleven Road at 8.10am on November 2.

Ms Eugene was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she died just after 10pm the same day.

Phinn, who had been staying with his mother, was arrested at the scene and appeared before magistrates on November 4 charged with murder.

On Tuesday, he appeared by video link from Thameside jail before Judge Alexia Durran for a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey.

The judge set a plea hearing for January 23 next year with a provisional two-week trial from September 2.

Phinn, who spoke only to confirm his identity, was remanded into custody.
