A man has been banned from driving after he hit 60mph in a 30mph zone.

Geoffrey James Phillips, 46, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes AMG when he committed the offence.

At 2.40pm on November 11 last year a speed gun caught the vehicle travelling at double the speed limit on the residential Shirley Road in East Croydon.

Phillips, of Witherston Way in Eltham, appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday October 19.

He changed his plea to guilty to speeding, having previously pleaded not guilty.

Phillips was disqualified from driving for six months due to repeat offending.

He was also fined £400, told to pay a £160 surcharge and £85 in costs.
