Fire crews were called to a blaze in Sutton after no smoke alarm went off to give warning to anyone inside.
Four fire engines were called to Bushey Road last night (Monday, October 9) at around 10.15pm to a maisonette fire.
The fire was under control after around one hour at 11.14pm.
Crews from Sutton, Wallington, Wimbledon and New Malden fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of this fire is under investigation.
A video shared on Facebook shows emergency services at the scene.
The flashing blue lights of a fire engine are clearly visible from a flat window.
The caption of the video reads: “Hopefully there’s not another serious incident like before.
“I saw large flames and lots of smoke at the end of Collingwood Road.”
Firefighter Oliver Sanders was at the scene, he said: "No smoke alarm sounded in the room where the fire took place.
“This is a timely reminder to all to ensure you have working smoke alarms throughout your home.
“Not having working smoke alarms leaves you and your loved ones at risk.”
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a maisonette fire on Bushey Road in Sutton last night.
“Part of a maisonette on the third floor was destroyed by fire.
“The Brigade was called at 2215 and the incident was over by 23.14.
“Fire crews from Sutton, Wallington, Wimbledon and New Malden fire stations were in attendance.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
