Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock is looking for new signing Darryl Flahavan to push Julian Speroni all the way for club's number one shirt this season.
Flahavan joined the Eagles on a free transfer from Southend United on Thursday having spent eight years on the east coast, signing a three-year deal.
Warnock was looking for a new goalkeeper with youngster Scott Flinders set to leave, and 29-year-old Flahavan impressed him.
He said: "Darryl is desperate to play in the Championships.
"He wants to rival Julian, he's not come here to be an understudy and I think that's good. He's prepared to commit himself by moving down here and I like the way he is with his attitude."
