Parents of Old Palace of John Whitgift School students have set up a fundraiser in honour of Elianne Andam, a year 11 pupil who was murdered whilst on her way to school in Croydon.

The fundraiser pays tribute to Elianne and the creators say that the page has been approved by her family.

The community is reaching out for donations to aid the Andam family with funeral costs and the establishment of a memorial.

They also say that they will strive to “ensure that all girls are afforded the opportunity to thrive in a school such as Old Palace”.

£38,500 has been raised so far, surpassing the appeal’s target of £10,000.

It describes Elianne Andam as a dynamic addition to the Old Palace community who was due to sit her GCSE exams this year.

The parent group say that “words alone cannot express our heartfelt grief and sympathy for the family at this time.”

On Wednesday (September 27) at 8.30am police were called to the scene of an attack at Wellesley Road in Croydon, outside the Whitgift Centre where 15-year-old Elianne had been stabbed.

Elianne died at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in New Addington 75 minutes after the stabbing and was later charged by police.

He has been charged with murder and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on October 3.

The GoFundMe reads: “We the parents of Old Palace of John Whitgift School have set up this page in honour of our Old Palace girl, Elianne Andam with the permission of the Andam family.

“She started at Old Palace in Year 7 and was happy and thriving. She started Year 11 this term and was set to pass all her GCSE’s this academic year.

“On Wednesday morning Elianne Andam died in front of Whitgift Centre after being brutally murdered. Words alone cannot express our heartfelt grief and sympathy for the family at this time.

“Our thoughts and prayer go out to the Andam family and all those affected by this loss. We pray for our school community and the young people in UK. These senseless killings must stop.

“In support of her family and to honour her memory, not only will we donate but we will also endeavour to ensure that all girls are afforded the opportunity to thrive in a school such as Old Palace.

“We encourage all those who can to donate. The proceeds will go to the parents of Elianne Andam towards funeral cost and to set up a memorial for her.

“Elianne Andam will not be forgotten, she will not be a statistic. She will be remembered. Say her name: Elianne Andam”

A statement read by a church leader on behalf of the family said: “We as a family are struggling to comprehend this painful tragedy that has happened to our beautiful daughter and beloved sister Elianne. Our hearts are broken.

“Elianne was a beautiful person inside and out who loved Jesus. She was intelligent, thoughtful, kind and had a bright future ahead. It is our request that you keep our cherished daughter Elianne and our family in your thoughts and prayers.”
