Eleven people fled from a huge fire that spread along a Worchester Park street yesterday, leaving one home severely damaged by the blaze.

The fire broke out in a semi-detached house leading to the destruction of the roof, part of the ground floor and first floor of the property on Wellington Avenue.

Two adjacent garages and a neighbouring house were also damaged by the fire.

Pictures from London Fire Brigade show the extent of the damage, with the structure of the roof exposed and garden left badly scorched.

All eleven occupants of the affected properties managed to evacuate before fire crews arrived at 5pm on August 25.

The London Fire Brigade sent twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters to tackle the blaze, which was reported by 25 different callers to the Brigade's 999 Control Officers.

Fire crews from New Malden, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Wallington, and Clapham, along with firefighters from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, worked to bring the fire under control by 7.46pm.

As a precaution, two cylinders were removed and cooled to prevent potential explosions caused by exposure to heat.
