Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were called to a fire in Twickenham that damaged the roof and internal ducting of a building.

Yesterday (August 23) at 12:17pm fire crews were called to the scene in York Street.

Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Hayes fire stations were at the scene.

Part of the roof and internal ducting running through a building housing restaurants and flats was left damaged by the fire.

Road closures were put in place whilst fire crews worked to put out the fire.

Station Commander Stephen McGhie, who has been at the scene, said: "Crews worked extremely hard and quickly to work to extinguish the fire and prevent fire spread to neighbouring properties.

"Road closures were in place in York Street to allow firefighters to work safely but these closures have now been lifted.

“However, crews will remain at the scene this afternoon dampening down."

There were no reported injuries, and the fire was under control by 2:22pm.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire on York Street in Twickenham.

“Part of internal ducting running through a building, made up of a restaurant and flats, was damaged by fire. Part of a roof was also damaged. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 1217 and the fire was brought under control by 1422.

“Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston and Hayes fire stations have been in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
