100 firefighters and fifteen fire engines were called to tackle a waste fire on Imperial Way in Croydon.

Yesterday, July 28, at around 9:41pm fire crews from London Fire Brigade were called to the scene to tackle a large fire at a waste disposal warehouse and offices on Imperial Way.

A large amount of waste materials were on fire and crews from Croydon, Woodside and other fire stations were called to put out the blaze.

London Fire Brigade received 11 calls from the public about the blaze and residents in the nearby area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke from the blaze.

The fire was under control by 4:46am today, although London Fire Brigade has said that a small amount of waste still remains alight and firefighters will be on scene for “several” hours to dampen down the affected area.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a waste fire on Imperial Way in Croydon.

“Firefighters have tackled a large fire at a waste disposal warehouse and offices.

“A large amount of waste materials were on fire and residents in the area were advised to shut their windows and doors due to the smoke.

“The Brigade's Control Room received 11 calls about the blaze.

“The Brigade was called at 2141 and the fire was under control by 0446. Fire crews from Croydon, Norbury, Woodside and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“A small amount of waste remains alight and firefighters will remain at the scene for several more hours to dampen down the area.

“The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
