Drugs squad officers swooped on a house of a suspected drug dealer following a Croydon Guardian investigation which showed how easy it was to buy drugs in the town.

Officers from the South Norwood drugs intelligence unit swooped on the house of the suspected drug dealer on Friday evening.

The raid on the property in Frith Road, central Croydon, came after almost two months of surveillance of the quiet terraced house.

It followed a investigation by this newspaper in April which showed how easy it was to buy drugs in the town.

Our reporter took to the streets at 8am and within 15 minutes was able to buy a £20 deal of cannabis and was offered heroin at the same time.

This week's drugs raid followed a tip-off to Croydon police following our story.

Undercover officers knocked on the front door of the house at 7pm and uniformed officers stormed the house once the door opened.

Two men inside the property were secured by officers.

During a search, police found an amount of cannabis resin in full view resting on the kitchen work-top.

After almost an hour of searching the police led out a handcuffed suspect to the back of a waiting police van.

A spokesman for the South Norwood intelligence unit said: "We executed a misuse of drugs warrant on the property after we received information leading us to believe that the property was being used to sell drugs.

"After diversionary tactics were used to gain entry into the property, the whole house was searched and we uncovered a small amount of cannabis resin.

"A man was arrested and taken to South Norwood police station where he was cautioned and released later that evening."
