Elena Baltacha bemoaned her slow start after being dumped out of Wimbledon at the second round stage.

The Brit suffered a nightmare first set before staging a late rally in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat to Jie Zheng.

And Baltacha admitted her nervy opening had cost her a shot at world number one Ana Ivanovic.

She said: "I couldn't quite get myself going.

"She started really well, and before I knew it, I was 4 love down.

"I managed to kind of get back in, but it was too late."

Baltacha produced a gutsy second set, but still felt she lacked the required level of consistency.

She added: "If I'm playing really good then I'm very dangerous, but then there's the inconsistencies.

"That's the difference between top 100 and 130.

"I don't think I have the whole consistency and I really need to improve on that."

Baltacha will now head to America as she bids to string an injury-free run of results together.

And she insists her best tennis is yet to come.

Baltacha added: "My main goal now is to reach top 100.

"I've got the weapons, I just need to improve the consistency.

"As long as I can do that, and get a clear run from injury, then I think top 100 here I come."
