A fire which ripped through the roof of a McDonald’s restaurant in Richmond has closed the restaurant “until further notice”.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters flocked to the scene at the The Quadrant on Saturday (June 1) at around 1.45pm.

The roof was found to be on fire which damaged part of the loft space of the fast-food restaurant.

The building was evacuated before the brigade arrived on scene and the surrounding roads were closed.

There were no reports of any injuries and crews from Kingston, Chiswick, Twickenham and Heston fire stations brought it under control by 3.40pm.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said the restaurant will remain closed until further notice, and they have no further information at this stage.

The fire is believed to be accidental and “most likely caused by hot works taking place in the area affected in the days leading up to the incident”.

A spokesperson for McDonalds said: “Our Richmond restaurant closed on Saturday afternoon after a fire on the roof.

“The fire and rescue service attended and contained the fire which was put out.

“The restaurant will remain closed until further notice.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire on The Quadrant in Richmond on Saturday (July 1).

"Part of the loft space at a fast-food restaurant was damaged by fire.

"The building was evacuated before firefighters arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.

"Road closures were in place while the incident was ongoing.

“The Brigade was called at 1345 and the fire was brought under control by 1540. Crews from Kingston, Chiswick, Twickenham and Heston fire stations attended the scene.

"The fire is being treated as accidental and most likely caused by hot works taking place in the area affected in the days leading up to the incident. "
