It will be strawberries and ice cream all round today to mark the start of this year's Wimbledon Championships.

Thousands of eager spectators will descend on the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the first day of the 122nd grand slam tennis tournament.

Today's sunshine will mark a positive start to the two-week Championships, which consists of more than 700 matches.

First up on Centre Court will be the defending men's champion, Roger Federer, who has won the Wimbledon title five times and is looking to scoop the prize for the sixth time this year. He will play against Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty, who has defeated the reigning champion both times he has challenged him in the past.

This year sees some changes to the courts, with an all-weather roof for Centre Court nearly completed and new hawk-eye technology to be used for line-calling, instead of decision-making by umpires and referees.

But the accuracy of the new system has been called into question by the researchers from Cardiff University's School of Social Science, who claim the machine can make errors and should not be relied on to make decisions.
