A man is fighting for life in hospital after being stabbed on a Sutton street during broad daylight.

Police were called to Welbeck Road at around 2pm today after reports of a stabbing.

A 31-year-old man was found suffering from stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Reports from social media say that an air ambulance was spotted in the area at the time.

His condition has now been assessed as life-threatening.

No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 14:03hrs on Tuesday, 23 May to reports of a stabbing in Welbeck Road, Sutton.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 31-year-old man suffering stab wound injuries.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“His condition has been assessed as life threatening.

“At this early stage no arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
