A building has been evacuated as police responded to a report of a suspected World War Two device in Croydon.
The report was made in Katharine Street just after 7.45pm yesterday (May 22).
A 50-meter cordon was put in place and around 40 people were evacuated before the brigade arrived.
No injuries were reported following the incident.
The item was declared safe by specialist police officers.
The incident was over for the fire crews from Croydon at 8.45pm.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters assisted the Metropolitan Police following a report of a suspected World War Two device at a building on Katharine Street in Croydon.
“A 50-metre cordon was put in place. Around 40 people were evacuated before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
“The item was declared safe by specialist police officers.
“The Brigade was called at 1947 and the incident was over for the fire crews at 2045. Fire crews from Croydon attended the scene.”
