A 19-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a teenage boy who was shot in the head.

Shernez Walters, of Hendon Gardens, Romford, was today (May 12) charged with the murder of Tyler McDermott and is set to appear at Highbury Magistrates’ Court later on.

A murder investigation was launched the day after police were called to Norman Road, Tottenham, in the early hours of April 13.

At the scene, emergency services found 17-year-old Tyler suffering from a gunshot injury.

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment where he died on April 14.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head. Police said that his family continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Seven other people have previously been charged with Tyler’s murder. They are:

  • Tyrese Barnett, 19, of no fixed address (also charged with the attempted murder of another male and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life)
  • Leo Reid, also 19, of Tulse Hill (also charged with possession of an offensive weapon)
  • Tyrese Matthews, 20, of Black Prince Road, Lambeth
  • Damaris McBeth, 19, of The Glade, Croydon
  • Rhys Antwi, 19, of Prentis Road, Streatham
  • Alfred Coker, 20, of Bowen Drive, Dulwich
  • Kalam Bagge, 18, of Nimrod Road, Streatham

All of these individuals have been remanded in custody and will next appear at the Old Bailey on July 5.
