Sutton Schools' Under-13s 1 Croydon Schools' Under-13s 3

Croydon Schools' Football Association's under-13s reached the Surrey Schools' Wood Cup Final after an entertaining match against Sutton Schools at Wilsons School, Wallington on Saturday, writes David Lomas.

James Dunne (Edenham) scored twice as Croydon eased their way to a 3-1 win.

After four minutes Dunne missed a good opportunity but in the ninth minute he made amends, rifling the ball home from just inside the penalty area. A shot by Jordan Wilson (Haling Manor) was palmed away for a corner and from another corner, Rhys Coleman (Whitgift) shot narrowly wide.

Wilson was proving to be a handful for the Sutton defence but there was no further score before half-time.

Seven minutes into the second half, Dunne increased Croydon's lead from the penalty spot after he had been tripped.

Sutton reduced the arrears 13 minutes before the end when a breakaway move saw substitute Bola Odusina outwit the Croydon defence but any hopes that Sutton had of salvaging something from the tie were extinguished when Kieran Dias (Stanley Technical) scored from close range, three minutes before the end.

l Whitgift School were winners of the Croydon School FA's under-13 five-a-side tournament at Selsdon High School last week. They won 1-0 against Archbishop Tenison's with a "golden goal" by Lee Hills in the first minute of extra-time.

Croydon Schools' under-14s have an important date at Croydon Sports Arena next Wednesday when they take on West Sussex Western Schools in the ESFA Area Eleven Eagles Trophy.
