A stats analysis website has used a supercomputer to predict the final positions of over 40 football leagues around the world.

FiveThirtyEight updates its predictions after every match and have forecasted where Crystal Palace, Millwal and Charlton will end up at the end of this season.

So, with Palace and Millwall in the final international break of the season and Charlton building some momentum with nine games to go, where does FiveThirtyEight think they will end up?

Crystal Palace

With Patrick Vieira fired and Roy Hodgson back in the manager’s chair, there could easily be cause for concern, but the software thinks Palace will survive the drop.

In fact, it believes they’ll maintain their 12th position and improve their points tally from 27 to 41.

According to FiveThirtyEight, there is just a 10% chance Hodgson’s side gets relegated, despite being without a win in 2023. Time will tell but this could help to lighten the mood after some dark days at Selhurst Park.

Millwall

The Lions certainly have a lot to play for this season and have occupied the playoff places for much of the last few weeks.

The supercomputer sees them gaining 13 points from now until the end of the season, which would be enough to take fifth place and open up the possibility of a trip to Wembley in an attempt to gain their first promotion to the Premier League.

Millwall have a 60% chance of securing this position according to this prediction.

Charlton

At one point of the League One season, with off-field turmoil, Charlton were drifting towards a relegation fight, but back-to-back wins have eased the nerves.

The Addicks are now set to finish in mid-table and maybe some fans will appreciate the calmness of this. The supercomputer suggests they will gain 14 more points in the next nine games, but this will only consolidate their 11th position in the league.

They have a 1% chance of both being relegated and rising into the promotion places, which means they can begin to focus on the all-important summer rebuild.
