A house fire in Thornton Heath is believed to have been caused by water coming into contact with electrics in the home.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the terraced house fire at St Stephens Crescent in Thornton Heath on March 14.

The brigade was first called at 4.42pm.

The fire destroyed most of the roof and half of the first floor was also damaged by the fire.

Pictures from London Fire Brigade show the roof stripped away from its supports.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Fire crews from Norbury, Croydon and West Norwood fire stations brought the blaze under control by 6.21pm.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a house fire on St Stephens Crescent in Thornton Heath.

“Most of the roof and half of the first floor of an end-of-terrace house was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 4.42pm and the fire was under control at 6.21pm.

“Fire crews from Norbury, Croydon and West Norwood fire stations were in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by water coming into contact with electrics.”
