A man has been left with “serious” life-changing injuries after a two car crash in Croydon.

At around 11.50pm yesterday (March 13) in Kent Gate Way, a BMW car reportedly drove off from police.

The car was later found involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Mokka car in Gravel Hill, Addington.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 39-year-old man, was found injured and taken to St George’s Hospital.

He has been left with “serious” life changing injuries following the incident.

Two women, occupants of the BMW car, were also taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

They were later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A crime scene currently remains in place at Gravel Hill.

The road remains closed both ways between Shirley Hills Road and Selsdon Park Road.

Investigation work is currently taking place following the incident, as reported by AA maps.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At approximately 23.49 hrs on Monday, 13 March on Kent Gate Way, Addington, Croydon, a BMW car drove off from a marked police unit on routine patrol.

“A short time later the car was found having being involved in a collision with another car on Gravel Hill A212, Addington.

“A 39 year old man, the sole occupant of the second car, a Vauxhall Mokka, was taken to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, with serious, potentially life changing injuries.

“Two female occupants of the BMW car that drove off from police have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

"They have been taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“A crime scene is in place at Gravel Hill is currently closed.

“As is routine in these incidents, the Directorate of Professional Standards and Independent Office for Police Conduct have been notified.”

The full statement from AA maps reads: “Road closed and delays due to crash investigation work on A212 Gravel Hill both ways between Shirley Hills Road and A2022 Selsdon Park Road.

“Congestion to Selsdon Park Road and Kent Gate Way, on the Addington side. Up Shirley Church Road towards Croydon.”
