A BRADFORD takeaway owner who raped a woman at his premises at dead of night after plying her with alcohol has been jailed for eight and a half years.

Sivaganeshan Pardeep was the proprietor of a premises in Shipley when he subjected his victim to a ‘prolonged and sustained’ sexual attack while she was at times semiconscious.

Part of the assault was captured on CCTV cameras in which 37-year-old Pardeep can be seen walking round without his trousers on.

Prosecutor Soheil Khan told Bradford Crown Court today that Pardeep pleaded guilty to rape and two counts of sexual assault 12 days before his trial was due to start.

He plied the young woman with alcohol after midnight, pulled her on to his lap, hugged her and touched her bottom.

She was crying and screaming while light-headed and at times lying on the floor, Mr Khan said.

She tried to fend Pardeep off with a knife and when she fell over he picked her up.

Although the rape was not caught on camera, her subsequent injuries and DNA evidence linked him directly to the attack.

In her victim personal statement, she said she had at times felt suicidal. Her health had suffered and she had lost her relationship with her boyfriend because of the strain she had been under.

She now found it hard to trust anyone and she felt that her future plans had been severely damaged.

Pardeep, now of Barnard Gardens, New Malden, South London, had no previous convictions, the court was told.

His barrister, Gillian Batts, said he had no recollection of what he actually did but he had to accept the CCTV and DNA evidence.

He was sorry for his actions and his guilty pleas had prevented the woman from ever having to come to court.

Pardeep had not committed any offences before or since.

He was still with his wife despite what he had done, Miss Batts said.

Judge Andrew Hatton said Pardeep plied his victim with alcohol and it was an aggravating factor that he too was under the influence of drink.

She was drowsy and light-headed when he assaulted her over the course of two or three hours. At times she was almost unconscious while he was abusing her.

She was crying, feeling faint and felt unable to breathe.

“It was a prolonged and sustained incident,” Judge Hatton stated.

She had fled the premises afterwards and made an immediate complaint about what had happened.

Judge Hatton told Pardeep he will serve two thirds of the eight and a half years behind bars.

He must sign on the sex offender register for life.
