Police are hunting for a witness to come forward who is believed to have been near the scene after a crash between an ambulance and motorcyclist in Croydon.

Police were called to the crash at the junction of Purley Way and Edgehill Road at around 6pm on August 30, 2022.

The collision was between a motorbike and an ambulance that had been dispatched to an emergency.

Fire crews and London’s Air Ambulance were also called.

The ambulance crew provided first aid to the motorcyclist, 52-year-old David Sharp from Lingfield in Surrey, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

David’s next of kin were informed and the incident is currently under investigation by officers from Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command.

Police are appealing for anyone who has dashcam footage to come forward and have released a photo of a motorcyclist who is a potential witness.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: “Detectives investigating a fatal collision in Croydon are releasing an image of a potential witness.

“The motorcyclist in the photo was believed to be close to the scene of the collision and may have vital information.

“Police were called shortly after 18:00hrs on 30 August 2022 to a collision involving an ambulance and a motorcycle at the junction of Purley Way and Edgehill Road.

“The ambulance was en route to an emergency call at the time of the collision; its crew provided first aid.

“Officers responded with the London Fire Brigade and London's Air Ambulance.

“Despite their efforts, the rider, 52-year-old David Sharp, from Lingfield in Surrey was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“Officers from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating, and in particular, are asking anyone who has dashcam footage to come forward.
