A family of four were trapped in their bathroom as a serious fire swept their Kew home on Friday.
Richmond Fire Brigade was called to a four storey townhouse in Woodman Mews, off Mellis Avenue at 5.45am.
The fire broke out on the first floor and the whole building was engulfed in smoke.
A family inside had been woken by their smoke alarm, but the smoke was already so thick they could not get out of the house.
They called 999 and went to the bathroom together for safety.
Firefighters made their way to the second floor and rescued the four people trapped there.
They were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to West Middlesex Hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns on their feet.
Fire brigade crews from Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith helped to extinguish the fire within half an hour, and contained the damage to the first floor.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Police have begun an investigation into the incident.
