Julian Speroni has admitted his relief at finally agreeing a new three-year deal to stay at Crystal Palace.

The Argentine keeper is out of contract in the summer and although he has not yet signed the deal, everything is agreed and he was happy to commit himself to the club.

He said: "I'm very pleased to know what's happening in the future. As I said before many times I'm very happy here and I'm happy to stay.

"In football you never know, everything changes very quickly. This year at least I know I'm on board a very good project and I'm glad the gaffer and the people here at Crystal Palace want me to be part of it.

"I think we can achieve a lot of things here so that was one of the reasons why I was very happy to stay because I believe that we can go far."

Speroni's contract talks have been an ongoing saga since Christmas, but he hasn't let that affect his form, keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding less goals than any other keeper.

He said: "You have to be focused on the football. I don't like to be talking about contracts and negotiations, I know it happened but on Saturday at 3pm that's over. My job is to do the best for the club."

The 28-year-old is now setting his sights on helping Palace into the Premiership and staking a claim for a spot in the Argentina national side.

He said: "Every player wants to play for their country, I've been there when I was a young player for the U20 and U21s so hopefully one day I can get back there, that would be great."
