A 'nightmare neighbour' denied hiding the real killer of pregnant Krystal Hart at the Old Bailey today.

Angela Brewer had named millionaire Thomas Hughes as the mum-to-be's killer but his defence accused her of protecting the real murderer.

Hughes of Stonells Road, Battersea, denies murdering the 22-year-old on her doorstep on Good Friday, April 6 last year, and possession of a firearm with intent.

The court had been told how the 40-year-old was infatuated with Miss Brewer, who lived below Krystal Hart, and that she had watched Hughes shoot the victim.

But Hughes' defence barrister Lady Mallalieu QC claimed Miss Brewer was lying.

"You know very well that the man who shot Krystal Hart was not Thomas Hughes," she said.

The 53-year-old replied: "I respect your profession and I respect that you have got to defend Mr Hughes but you have been told a pack of lies.

"I am sorry but what you have been told by your client is a pack of lies."

Text messages

The court was shown transcripts of text messages sent between Hughes and Miss Brewer.

One sent by Hughes read: "Don't let Krystal wind you up. She's mad and will die of Aids."

After Krystal was shot Miss Brewer texted Hughes saying: "What made you go crazy like that. I will see Krystal's eyes pleading with me until I die. We have had stupid rows but she didn't deserve to die.

"I wish you had shot me instead. God forgive you."

Parking row

The court was told Hughes shot Krystal after a parking dispute.

It is claimed Hughes returned to the home he shared with his mum to collect a gun after Miss Hart's boyfriend, David Sivete, noted down his car's number plate.

According to the prosecution Hughes then returned to Ms Hart's home and shot her at point blank range.

The jury had been told Miss Brewer - described as a neighbour from hell by prosecutors - was obsessive about noise from the upstairs flat.

Miss Brewer - who has convictions for assault and importing cannabis against her - had reported Miss Hart and previous occupants to the police, housing association, council and county court.

She had also been convicted of harassment at Kingston Crown Court on April 25, 2005, and given a 12-month community rehabilitation order.

At the time of Miss Hart's killing the local authority was compiling a file against her in an attempt to secure an antisocial behaviour order.

The trial continues on Monday.
