I have been a resident on or very close to the Longmead estate for nearly 40 years and I do not feel it has always been a horrible place.

I do feel that things are bad at the moment and will get worse if the problems are not addressed very soon.

There are many nice people living in and around the surrounding area. There is unfortunately an element of this particular community who have a selfish don't care attitude and this is like a virus - it can spread.

I feel the council should be addressing some of these issues as well as many others, to help this community. I am sure the people of Longmead and Epsom would love to see their council tax being put to proper use, not just reading about what the money goes on in its audits.

Longmead estate and Epsom need a council who will act and make things happen, not just talk.

The police need more powers to be able to deal effectively with the yob element and their parents on the estate, and those that come here from surrounding areas.

The parents are supposed to be responsible for their children.

These yobs usually know how they stand within the law and know exactly what the police can and cannot do and therefore make a mockery of the system.

I feel perhaps the neighbourhood watch coordinator for the estate and surrounding area should be more active.

Until very recently I did not know the estate had one and certainly do not know of any scheme or plans they have, if any, to assist the victims as there have never been any contact from any such person on the estate at my address.

I would like to say that the next time a councillor comes to your door, be sure not to shy away from them. Ask them what their party is going to do for this area and vote for those that are going to make a real difference.

Also, instead of moaning to the neighbour about what is happening here, do something about it. Go to the meetings on the estate for both the regeneration of the area and the policing of our community.

You are entitled to your view, so have your say. Do not be afraid of calling the police if you feel frightened, intimidated by yobbish behaviour or feel a crime has or is about to be committed.

You are not a nuisance if you report to the council. If you cannot get them by phone go and see them.

If these community groups do not know what is happening, nothing will be done about it and so things get worse as these selfish people get away with it. Those of us who do care have a voice - use it. We can make a difference ourselves.
