Metropolitan Police boss Jimmy Cooper has described this weekend's showdown with play-off chasing Kingstonian as the game that could make or break his side's season.

Cooper saw the Blues slip to a 1-0 defeat at Cray Wanderers on Saturday as the race for Ryman Division One South promotion really hots up.

And with fellow high-fliers Kingstonian next on the agenda, Cooper admitted it was a must-win game for the Police.

Cooper said: "It is the biggest game of our season so far and will be a difficult one.

"I am sure Kingstonian will come here fired up and we have to match that.

"If we can win that game it almost takes them out of the play-off equation for us."

The Blues' loss at Cray saw them slip to fourth place, but Cooper refused to be downhearted by the defeat.

He added: "It was still a good performance overall.

"We dominated in the second half but we could not put the ball in the back of the net.

"If we were to come up against them in the play-offs, I think we would get through."

One reason for Cooper's optimism is the form of his defence, which has conceded just 37 goals this season.

He added: "Defensively, we are very solid at the moment.

"We are working very hard to limit the number of opportunities our opponents get.

"The team spirit and togetherness amongst the players is exceptional, and this will stand us in good stead over the last 10 games."
