A man who suffered from smoke inhalation and burns has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out inside a house in Croydon.

Firefighters were called to a house fire on Silver Lane in Croydon yesterday just before 5pm.

Half of the first floor and part of the loft were destroyed by the fire.

One man suffering from smoke inhalation and burns was taken to hospital.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters from Croydon, Mitcham, Woodside and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire was under control by 6.50pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a house fire on Silver Lane in Croydon.

“Firefighters tackled a fire at a detached house where half of the first floor and part of the loft were destroyed by fire.

“One man suffering from smoke inhalation and burns was taken to hospital.

“The Brigade was called at 1659 and the fire was under control by 1850. Fire crews from Croydon, Mitcham, Woodside and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
