Two garages have been destroyed after a fire broke out in Croydon earlier today.

Firefighters were called to garages alight in Westcombe Avenue just after 12pm today (August 5).

Two garages in a rear garden were destroyed by fire and a further six garages were also damaged by the blaze.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the fire and the fire was under control by 1.09pm.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Croydon, Norbury, West Norwood and Purley fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to garages alight at the rear of Westcombe Avenue in Croydon.

“Two garages in a rear garden were destroyed by fire and a further six garages were also damaged by the blaze.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 1202 and the fire was under control by 1309.

“Fire crews from Croydon, Norbury, West Norwood and Purley fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
