An enterprising group of Kingston students have set up an interactive website to ensure that the future generation of teenagers are financial savvy.

Sarah Hollinshead, Lilli McGeehan, Philly Sweetnam, Sarah Calascione and Ola Akintola, are all 16 and 17 and A Level students at Tiffin Girls' School.

They have set up The Share Exchange, a website featuring games, tutorials and facts to unlock the puzzling world of finance through the school's young enterprise company, Estilo.

Aimed at young people aged 14 to 18, the girls hope the site will be an educational and fun way to equip teenagers with vital information about credit cards, debt and saving for the future.

Estilo managing director Lilli McGeehan said: "Gordon Brown is really pushing for financial education and we really wanted to get involved with this and make a difference to young people."

Initial brainstorming to create the site took three weeks and the girls then sold Tiffin branded oven gloves to raise the initial funds needed.

The girls have also created two unique characters, Bianca Fingland and Ian Vestment which guide users through levels and games which increase in difficulty.

Marketing co-ordinator Philly Sweetnam, said: "If you understand finance, it can help you to understand more about the world and current affairs.

"We thought young people might be more inspired when it is young people themselves that have come up with the idea."

The girls are now approaching other schools to promote the site and get pupils involved in using it.

They also pitched their idea at a Kingston chamber of commerce breakfast in front of more than 100 local business men and women on February 14 in the hope of getting local businesses on board to sponsor the project and advertise on the website.

Sarah Calascione, marketing co-ordinator, said: "This will help young people plan early about how to manage their money and plan for the future.

"We didn't know a lot about this when we started so we are learning as we go along as well."
