1999 - Oliver Driscoll pays £6,200 for a first edition of "The Beano" at auction. It is the highest price ever paid for a comic in Britain.

2001 - It is reported that Michael Jackson has broken his foot in a fall at his home.

2001 - A phone call saves the life of a man in Copenhagen. He is sitting on the top deck of a bus when his mobile rings. He bends down to get it out of his bag, just as the bus crashes into a low bridge and takes the top of the buss off. Then man is unharmed.

2002 - Tony Blair says that Iraq's development of weapons of mass destruction poses a threat to world stability and that he agrees with George Bush's description of Iraq belonging to an "axis of evil".

2004 - Britain's first supermarket wedding takes place, when a couple who had met at a checkout return to the store to wed.
