A man who fled from officers has been charged after he allegedly tried to discard a huge knife.

Police were on patrol in the Shurblands area and spotted a male who ran when they approached.

Officers chased the suspect in the 32-degree heat, and he was detained and charged.

The man had tried to get rid of the weapon he was carrying by dropping it on the ground, according to police.

Croydon Police tweeted: “PC's on Response Team B on active patrols in the Shurblands spotted a male and went to engage.

“On seeing police he ran, a long foot chased ensured in 32° heat.

“The male discarded the below during the chase and was safely detained and charged.

“#ResponsePolicingweek.”
