Pride month is here – and what better way to celebrate than to indulge in the rich histories of LGBTQ+ communities and party from dusk until dawn.

Pride is celebrated throughout June, as that was the month when the Stonewall riots took place – the 1969 protests in the US that changed gay rights for people across the world.

It’s an incredible time to celebrate people coming together, forming friendships, and creating memories to show how far LGTBQ+ rights have come and what still needs to be improved.

Of course – London is full of incredible pride events this month – from parades, art exhibitions, brunches, drag shows and many more, it’s a perfect time to get involved and celebrate diversity.

We’ve rounded up the ultimate celebrations happening across south London for the rest of this month:

Under Your Nose + Q&A, Stanley Arts

Your Local Guardian:

On Monday, June 27, viewers can attend a screening of Under Your Nose at the Stanley Arts for just £8.

This documentary film by Veronica McKenzie follows the journey of the ground-breaking Black Lesbian and Gay Centre in Peckham.

The film celebrates a group of activists who came together with one aim – to open a centre for the BME LGBT community in London.

Croydon PrideFest 2022, Croydon Town Centre/Wandle Park

Your Local Guardian:

Croydon Pride strives for LGBTQ+ equality within the south London borough– staging inclusive events and celebrating diversity.

The free event will be run on Saturday, July 16 and will see a range of performers and entertainers throughout the day.

The legendary parade will begin at the M&S store in Croydon Town Centre at 12pm and will travel through the streets of Croydon until ending in Wandle Park at 12.45pm.

Their Majesties, The Oval

To celebrate the return of Croydon Pride Fest, Their Majesties intends to bring together a selection of LGBTQ+ artists for the ultimate pre-pride party.

Running at The Oval in Croydon on June 30 at 8pm, the artists performing are ones who took part in the Croydon Pride Talent Show in February 2022. The extravaganza will also be joined by Scarlett Harlett – of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 3.

Queer Walls, Eltham Palace

Your Local Guardian:

During Pride month, Eltham Palace will be celebrating an evening of Art Deco and 1930s entertainment throughout the history of LGTBQ+.

The evening will be packed with sophisticate drinks and music from the late 1930’s – ticket buyers can expect to see art decadence whilst celebrating with likeminded people and drag hosts.

The event will be running on Friday, June 17 from 7pm until 10pm and is suitable for all adults who are raring to get glammed up.

Pride at Greenwich, University of Greenwich

Calling all current and ex students at the University of Greenwich, this celebration will be running on Friday June 24 from 6pm to 9pm.

Pride at Greenwich will feature a range of drinks, food, chats from LGBTQ+ staff and alumni, and a whole load of special guests.

The early hours of the celebrations will be outside, weather permitting, then moving inside where there will be an after-party, including a show from Envy the Queen and karaoke until late.
