A garage and car has been completely destroyed by a fire in Croydon.

Firefighters were called to a garage fire on Church Road in Croydon yesterday afternoon (June 9).

The fire involved a garage which spread to two properties and a car.

The garage and car were completely destroyed by the fire.

One detached house and a part of another semi-detached bungalow were partly damaged by the fire.

The brigade were called at 3.55pm and the fire was under control by 5.28pm.

The brigade’s control team took around 16 calls to the fire.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters from Purley, Croydon, Wallington, Addington, and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a garage fire on Church Road in Croydon.

“Firefighters tackled a fire involving a garage, which spread to two properties and a car.

“One detached house and part of another semi-detached bungalow were partly damaged by fire and a detached garage and car were completely destroyed by the fire.

“The Brigade's Control office took 16 calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 1555 and the fire was under 1728.

“Fire crews from Purley, Croydon, Wallington, Addington, and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
