A 22-year-old has been found guilty today of murdering a man at a Wimbledon squat.

The Old Bailey heard how Dean Forde killed Paul Doohan by kicking, punching and stamping on the 39-year-old at a disused school in Dorset Road on November 20, 2006.

Forde's girlfriend Suzanne Jiminez, 33, from Durham Road, Raynes Park was found not guilty of Mr Doohan's murder but was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Jiminez was sentenced to two years for giving Forde, of no fixed abode, a false alibi.

A postmortem examination showed Mr Doohan, of Shropshire Close, Mitcham died of multiple injuries.

Detective Inspector Alan Baxter of the Homicide and Specialist Crime Command, who led the investigation, said: "Earlier that day, Mr Doohan had been to a family funeral and later met up with a group of people that included both defendants. This group comprised of people who frequented Wimbledon town centre and were known as local street drinkers.

"After a series of minor arguments between Forde and Mr Doohan, the group went to the squat that was formerly a private school. It was there that events took a turn for the worse and culminated in a ferocious and sustained attack on Mr Doohan by Dean Forde."

The court heard that Forde had stripped Mr Doohan's body after the attack and wrote the words "mug", "remember" and "you c***" on his chest and arm.

Forde is due to appear for sentencing on February 18.
