A sports pavilion in Croydon has been completely destroyed by a fire.

Crews were called to the blaze in Purley Way just before 6.20pm on Saturday evening.

The single-storey sports pavilion was destroyed but there were no reports of any injuries.

12 people called 999 about the fire.

The blaze, which was tackled by around 25 firefighters, was under control by 7.52pm.

Four engines from Purley, Croydon, Wallington and Norbury fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a sports pavilion on Purley Way in Croydon.

"A single storey sports pavilion was destroyed by the fire.

"There were no reports of any injuries.

"The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.

"The Brigade was called at 1818 and the fire was under control by 1952.

"Fire crews from Purley, Croydon, Wallington and Norbury fire stations were at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service."

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called by the London Fire Brigade at about 18:35hrs on Saturday, 28 May to reports of a fire on a playing field close to Purley Way in Croydon.

"Officers attended.

"There were no reported injuries.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
