A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Carshalton.
The 45-year-old victim, named locally as Johnny Dutton, was found with stab wounds to his chest and face after being attacked in his Middleton Road home on Wednesday night.
It is believed a neighbour dialled 999 after finding Mr Dutton - known as Big John by pals - and the victim was rushed to St George's Hospital, Tooting, at around 11.20pm where it is believed he had open heart surgery.
Police say Mr Dutton is off the critical list, and conscious.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Sutton CID on 020 8649 0747 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
