Battersea residents will be able to find out what all-day flights and a third Heathrow runway could mean for them at a public meeting on Tuesday February 5.

The event will be held at Belleville School in Webb's Road and starts at 7.30pm.

Speakers include council leader Edward Lister and John Stewart from noise campaign group HACAN.

It is the latest in a series of public meetings and rallies being held across south and west London. Previous events at Putney, Chiswick and Richmond have attracted huge crowds of people concerned about the impact of 222,000 extra flights on their quality of life.

Wandsworth Council's transport spokesman Guy Senior will explain the noise impact for Battersea residents while environment spokesman Malcolm Grimston will discuss the climate change consequences of continued expansion.

There will also be a presentation from Geraldine Nicholson of the No Third Runway Action Group which represents people living close to the airport who will lose their homes under the plan.

The council arranged the meeting after the Department for Transport refused to hold a public exhibition of the proposals in the borough.
