A 45-year-old man was stabbed in Carshalton last night.
The man, named locally as Johnny Dutton, was stabbed in the chest and face. It is believed a neighbour dialled 999 after finding the man, who was rushed to St George's Hospital, Tooting, at his home in Middleton Road.
Mr Dutton, known as Big John by friends, had open heart surgery last night and is in a serious condition. A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene at 11.20pm and police were informed.
Police sealed off the road while they carried out investigations in the area. Middleton Road reopened at 5am.
