A new 14-storey office block has been approved for construction next to East Croydon Station.

The new building will be the third office block to be approved for Ruskin Square.

The first stage of the development was completed in 2016 and was let out to HMRC in 2017 under a 25-year lease.

The second office block, a 10-storey building, is expected to be completed in 2023 which will be used by Home Office civil servants.

Schroders and Stanhope, which are behind the office buildings, have had plans for a third office building approved by Croydon Council.

The 14-storey building designed by shedkm, includes 290,000 sq ft of office space as well as space for three shops on the ground floor.

Croydon councillor Sean Fitzsimons said: “Croydon needs jobs and Grade A offices, which we don’t have enough of currently.

"Good to see planning permission granted for 3 Ruskin Square on Dingwall Road, East Croydon.

"We need more Grade A Office Developments like this.”

The proposals also include bicycle spaces and lockers for office workers to use. Rob Cosslett, Deputy Fund Manager, Schroders Capital, said: “Ruskin Square is on track to become a truly best in class office scheme in South London, combining exceptional building design with the benefits of the nearby train station, the amenities of Boxpark, and high quality and long term office occupiers.

Civil servants are expected to move into 2 Ruskin Square by the end of 2024. 

The offices are part of the Government Hubs Programme with hopes that the Croydon hub will save the taxpayer £8 million.
