Your article in last week's paper (Businesses not keen to move in, Croydon Guardian, January 23) highlighted a relatively low number of firms moving into Croydon in the six months prior to September.

I am pleased to say that we are aware of a lot of firms that have now located to Croydon from elsewhere in the last three months and we have exceeded the annual target with still three months of the financial year to go.

The Croydon Enterprise Programme initially focused on starting up businesses in the borough alongside helping existing businesses to grow. In this respect, we have been involved with 30 new Croydon companies that have started to trade in the three months up to Christmas compared with only two in the previous quarter.

These firms know what a good place Croydon is to locate a business and we now need to get that message over to people outside Croydon.

In October, we appointed a member of staff to improve our ability to attract businesses to Croydon from elsewhere.

I am sure that this increased resource will be reflected in a much improved performance in the future.
